Ok, I guess I have to do this as well: About the Canada and Mexico Tariffs

Similar to what played out last week when Colombia neutralized a tariff threat by agreeing to accept deportation flights from America — flights they’d already been accepting for four years under Joe Biden. in fact, Donny ended up on the losing end of that deal, by agreeing to Colombia’s human rights demands.. Mexico and Canada agree to do what they’re already doing!

Mexico: In a deal Joe Biden did 4 years ago .. According to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Mexico will maintain a deployment of about 10,000 troops. Additionally the White House accidently forgot to mention: Mexican president reveals U.S. concession Trump failed to mention as tariffs paused”In Trump’s readout of the call, the White House neglected to mention that the new president agreed to stop U.S. guns crossing the border, CNBC confirmed.” Of course. It’s what Mexico has been asking for, for years but the gun lobby in the US blocked it. Trump caved big time. Not that he will keep his word.”

Canada: In December of 2024 Government of Canada announces its plan to strengthen border security and our immigration system (yes, this is the 1.8 billion investment).. I guess he did win” though because Canada promised to appoint a Fentynl Czar” which will absolutely definitely not be a bullshit appointment. So Trump tried to blow up a trade agreement he negotiated and pissed off our neighbors for nothing.

But, but, but Canada has a huge border problem with illegals and drugs! But they have a huge trade deficit with us! And they don’t pay their fair share to NATO. Well…

Canada makes up just 0.2% of US border fentanyl seizures (which essentially a rounding error). Federal statistics show US border authorities seized 21,889 pounds of fentanyl in the 2024 fiscal year. Of that amount, 43 pounds were seized at the Canadian border — about 0.2% — compared with 21,148 pounds at the Mexican border, about 96.6%. Yees, read that again: 43 POUNDS out of 21,148.

In fiscal year 2024, there were about 2.9 million nationwide encounters” with migrants by US border authorities. Of those, 198,929 encounters — about 6.9% — were at the Canadian border. And of the approximately 1.6 million US Border Patrol encounters with migrants at places other than legal ports of entry, just 23,721, or about 1.5%, were at the northern border.

The US goods and services trade deficit with Canada was about $40.6 billion in 2023, the last year for which full data is available, according to the US government’s Bureau of Economic Analysis. Even if you only consider trade in goods and ignore the services trade at which the US excels, the US deficit with Canada was about $72.3 billion in 2023, still far shy of Trump’s regular $200 billion” figure. And it’s worth noting the deficit is overwhelmingly caused by the US importing a large quantity of inexpensive Canadian oil — about 3.9 million barrels of crude oil per day on average in 2023 — which helps keep Americans’ gas prices down. Trump has argued that we don’t need anything” from Canada, but heavy crude from the Alberta oil sands is in high demand by US refineries, mostly in the Midwest, that are designed to process heavy crude into products like gasoline and diesel, rather than the lighter crude the US tends to extract domestically.

Trump wrongly claimed in early January that Canada spends less than 1%.” Official NATO figures show Canada spent an estimated 1.37% of GDP on defense in 2024 — fifth lowest in 2024 out of the 31 NATO members with a standing army — up from an estimated 1.31% in 2023. Canada was above 1% for the entirety of Trump’s first presidency, ranging from 1.44% in 2017 to 1.29% in 2019. It’s important to note that based on Canadas large economy 1.37% put it near the top of total amount contributed.

So, if you don’t believe he would make bad deal on purpose see them for what they were. A way for his buddies to short the hell out of the marks and a distraction while President Musk graduates to Dictator Musk.
