The Dismantling of a Financial Watchdog Is Already Harming Consumers—and Worse May Be to Come

Now, with the Trump administration having ordered the CFPB to halt all of its work, the SFS case could be dropped entirely—leaving its alleged victims in the lurch. And it is only the tip of the iceberg. Millions of other U.S. consumers are similarly waiting on more than two dozen other pending federal lawsuits brought by the CFPB, to potentially recoup fees and charges that the consumer watchdog says are illegal, predatory, or overbilled.
