From the article:
Far from abandoning their responsibilities, federal employees returned to in-person work more quickly than their counterparts in the private sector. The Congressional Budget Office found that federal agencies have maintained significant on-site staffing levels since the height of the pandemic, with more than 80 percent of federal work hours completed in person.
Moreover, in agencies with higher rates of telework, productivity has increased. For example, the Social Security Administration reported a 6 percent boost in productivity in 2024, despite staffing levels that are at a 50-year low. These findings directly undermine Republican assertions that telework is incompatible with effective government operations.
Interesting Comments:
As a federal worker I’ll say this, telework WORKS. It saves tax payers money on building and facilities cost, and turnover. Federal employees make less money, and that’s okay. The trade off is we give that part up higher salaries for better work life balances. There’s also a big problem with the government in that a lot of employees are 50+ years old. The government has had problems getting younger people. Young people DON’T want to be in an office 5 days a week. Congress knows all this very well; they see it as a way to make government less efficient, and therefore you can contract more work out so people can make millions off tax payers.
RTO is to reduce workforce to cause chaos. This is NOT for efficiency. This will replace people loyal to Trump. This is theatre to hit national news to give impression executive office is working This is to appease big companies to justify their multi decade leases. This is to appease city building owners to artificially inject money to dying city businesses. Again, citizens getting fucked for billionaire buddies.
